" I promised some pics of the widened stock wheels.
In the rear it is the RG500 wheel taken out to 4,75. The company who did this said that they would not take it out more than 2”. There is a GSX600F (Katana in US) wheel from 88 with the same spoke pattern that is 3,5” wide. It could then be 5,5 if needed. The GSX rear wheel will need custom spacers but brake disc and sprocket carrier is the same. The wheel width fit with Jolly Moto and MD pipes and 160/60 under stock bodywork without any further mods.
In front I used the GSX600F wheel instead. It is 17” and has brake discs (290 mm) that fit bolt on together with GSXR1100 -86/87 calipers without any bracketry in the stock forks. Just remember to change the MC to a 16 mm bore and turn down the discs 2-3 mm on the diameter. This wheel I had widened from 2,5” to 3,5”. All stock spacers fit so it is a bolt on mod. This is probably the best mod I have ever done to the bike when you measure bang for the buck. Lighter wheel than stock with brakes that are miles better than stock ones and much better stability from the modern tire profile.
Later I found out that this wheel has the same bolt pattern for the brake discs as Yamaha. Therefore I have now crafted on a R1 USD with R1 brake discs and the old 6 spoke wheel. As you can see without any bracketry to keep the stock/factory look. There are other positive things with the R1 forks. The stock spring rate is correct for my bike and rider weight .80kg/mm. The offset in the triples gives me a trail of around 95 mm (if I remember correctly). I should actually go to 120/70 instead of 120/60 if I want to maintain the rear ride height. Perhaps academic but will try next time I need a tire change.
The GSX600F / Katana wheels from 1988 which are 17X2,5 and 17X3,5 and looks the same as the stock gamma wheels can be had on eBay for next to nothing. I have got and extra set for another Gamma I have just because of the tire selection and brake upgrade without the widening. No one can tell that it is not stock."
