    in 2000, the pole at Brno was
    250cc: 2:03.673
    500cc: 2:01.291


    In 2009,
    250cc pole was 2:01.611 (hey, 250cc of today is as fast as 500GP in their final year)
    MotoGP pole was Rossi 1:56.145
    WSBK Biaggi pole 1:59.982


    So 9 years later, WSBK is 1.3 seconds quicker than 500GP was back in the day


    Amazing, a "new" 250 lapping as fast as the 500GP monster (have 250s really changed much in the last few years?). Handling is a wonderful thing.


    Interesting at Phillip Island, 500GP pole of 2000 is 4 seconds of 2008 MotoGP laptime
    At Brno, it is 5 second advantage to MotorGP pole time vs 500GP


    I think new tires and suspension could put a circa 2000 500GP faster than WSBK of today (1:59) , but it would take electronic magic to try to close in on MotoGP at 1:56


    And that is talking about simply taking an old 500 and putting new suspension and tires on it. If the 500s had been developed for the last decade, and full of electronics, etc, (ie tamed a great deal) ... well, that just spoils all the fun, doesn't it. Kind of like how it would be, watching Marilyn Monroe mature into a sagging 80 year old. Better to remember the good old days !!!

    Phillip island lap time records- THIS IS GREAT Notice the 2008 250cc pole is faster than the 2000 500cc pole!!


    From what I can find, 500s typically ran 2-3 seconds faster than 250s. Just going by this simple estimation , one might expect 500cc bikes to be turning laps in the ~ 1:29 range today at Phillip island.

    hey carsten, da haste mich aba vollumfänglich falsch verstanden. wie schnell 500er waren und wie schnell die motogp weiss ich schon.


    nur war es damals sehr oft so dass die aufsteiger, egal ob sie den klassenwechsel auf die 500er in werks- oder privtteams gemacht hatten, meist sehr gut aussahen. also gleich vorne dabei waren :nixweiss: alle vier aufsteiger aus der 250er können zumindest nicht auf anhieb vorne oder im mittelfeld mitfahren. :nixweiss: obwohl, eigentlich gibts ja nur noch vorn und mittelfeld :face_with_rolling_eyes:


    aba wie gesagt, es wird ja bisher nur getestet :nixweiss:

    Ich denke das die Aufsteiger, die ja größtenteils auf Honds's sitzen, noch Probleme mit der Umstellung auf Öhlins haben. Wie Pedrosa auch. Dovizioso kommt dagegen besser zurecht, aber der fährt ja schon seit Mitte letzter Saison mit Öhlins. Auch waren gestern die Bedingungen anscheinend schlechter als Vorgestern, denn die Zeiten wurden kaum besser und es stürzten viele.
    Hayden, Rossi, Spies, Stoner, Simoncelli und Edwards fielen runter.


    Deshalb lässt sich noch weniger als sonst aus den Testzeiten etwas ableiten.

    was Du sagst mit erfolgreichen 250er- Fahrern in der 500er, das war aber erst in der letzten Zeit so. Rossi und Biaggi (der gewann gleich seinen 1. 500er GP) waren solche. Davor, in den 80er Jahren bis Mitte der 90er, waren meist Amis aus der amerikanischen Superbike und Dirt- Trac- Serie bei den 500ern erfolgreich. Dort fuhren Maschinen mit Wahnsinnsleistung und einfachen wackeligen Fahrwerken, die Reifen haben nur gerutscht... . Wenn man heute mal ein 500er Rennen aus dieser Zeit ansieht, dann ist augenfällig, wie die Kisten damals gewackelt haben.


    Später gab es die BigBang- Motoren, wo alle 4 Zylinder in 90° kurbelwellenwinkel gezündet haben, vernünftige Fahrwerke und Reifen. Damit kamen auch dann welche zurecht, die aus der 250er aufgestiegen waren. Aber auch nicht alle.
