There is always commotion on the list when someone asks out of the normal
for a Gamma.

I made a generic "non scientific" chart that shows a typical ratio between
the different conditions and price that occurs occasionally in the market
place for desirable vehicles.

A full out special will very rarely collect the value from the sum of parts
it is put together with. Not to talk about the labour. They are expensive
but not compared to their cost. Usually modifications to bikes are more for
the satisfaction for the owner than for a ROI.

A nice modded bike (like the bikes to most people on this list) without
irreversible modifications will hold its value as a stock nice bike. If
these bikes are to be liquidated it is better to put them back to stock and
sell the trick bits separately. There is a saying in collector circles that
vehicles like this with irreversible modification applies for paragraph 35.
I.e. their value is reduced with 35% from comparable conditions in stock
shape.

Basket case and very used bikes are naturally the lowest value. Usually more
expensive to bring to nice/mint, if possible, than just to get a nice bike.
These bikes are the ones we see sold on eBay as parts or could be a base for
a "special". Or just used as a "runner".

Mint and NOS (there are some around) are considered "unobtainium" there will
only be fewer and fewer left. Prices for these kind of vehicles will only go
one way. In comparison to specials these are more worth as a complete
package than in parts.

Specials will never be considered as unobtainium as the latest build will
only be the measuring stick for the next one and no or little authenticity.
And you can always build a new one. As availability and technology develops
the next special is better than the last one so no price development for
them. Just think of it - the Hot bikes featured in the magazines 10-20 years
ago - are they hot today? Perhaps retro:-)

So is the listed bike worth 14000 GBP or more? Is 4000 miles today rare
enough for collecting the value? I don't know. If it sells there is no doubt
about it. Due to the nature of the Gamma (limited production, racing
heritage, reputation, fastest "successful" production two-stroke, etc.) it
has a lot of features that makes it desirable. And remember it is a global
market for these. And as the pound has fallen in value the last 2 years this
is actually 3000 GBP less today than it would have been 2 years ago for me
as an example.

My point is it has nothing to do with which aftermarket gearbox, exhaust or
frame modification the bike is fitted with that is driving the prices.
Quite the contrary. That is a different market. Authenticity, originality
and rareness are much stronger forces when the prices are to be set.
