"Recently discovered my tap was leaking on closed. OE taps are available for £85 but before I took the plunge I thought I d have look see. To dismantle the tap you need to remove the shaft seal which I couldnt get out without damaging it. Problem is its not listed on parts list. But the seal is an NDK item marked 9 22 7 and a bit of google research allowed me to find this equivalent for the princely sum of £2.27 including postage and VAT.

under the seal is a rotating plastic valve and when I removed this it was clear that petrol gum residue between the ports in the tap body was preventing it seating. It all cleaned up nicely with some scraping with a small screwdriver then polishing with solvol. I also polished the plastic valve. The new seal is easy to press in by hand using a correct size socket as a drift. All back together and the moment of truth - hurrah - not a drip in sight - at least as far as my tank goes...

The other thing immediately noticeable is how smooth and easy the tap is to operate. I haven't owned an RG500 before so I had assumed the stiff and notchy previous action was just how they are. And of course I know that many will say that fitting in line taps is the only answer but I am ok for now and would like to keep the bike looking standard as far as possible."
